Welcome back! Recently, you may have seen in the news several articles on companies eliminating the college degree requirement from several jobs. You can read about it here if you have not had the chance to yet.
This is a continuation of a trend where companies are providing greater flexibility on who to hire for roles by eliminating requirements and providing opportunities to more applicants to apply and get opportunities.
This has led many on the anti-college front to rally harder against colleges and higher ed in general.
The question to many of you is simple - is the value of a college degree being devalued? And if so, should you be encouraging you kids to apply and attend college knowing it may not even be necessary?
First, let’s start with the initial premise.
What is the goal of college?
In the AD world, college is a means to an end. It is not about achieving a specific job (e.g., I want to be an investment banker at Goldman Sachs) but about being able to achieve a specific goal (e.g., I want to be an investment banker and therefore need to attend college).
