For the purposes of this article, we are only discussing external scholarships - meaning we are not discussing scholarships that are tied to financial aid or to a specific school or program.
Instead, we are referring to school agnostic scholarships that you apply to outside of your regular application process.
Most families begin the process of searching for scholarships the summer before senior year at the very earliest, and the majority of them actually do not start until after college applications are done and submitted. By that time, they have missed out on some of the biggest scholarships who have deadlines on or before early decision applications.
