Welcome back! Before we get into this week’s articles, a quick note.
In the application process, the personal statement is usually provided as a means to communicate a bit about who you are as an applicant. While you should use it as an opportunity to be creative, there is another lesser known reason why the personal statement is important.
In the application process, there are objective (e.g., GPA) and subjective (e.g., letters of recommendation) components. The personal statement on its face is subjective, but it is also an objective way to evaluate an applicant’s ability to write.
Make sure you have your personal statement reviewed not just for content but also for your writing style. The most interesting story is lost to typos and grammatical errors.
